After a longtime!

Posted by: Debasish on: April 15, 2009

I don’t believe I’m actually writting something in my blog. This is mainly because I wanted to check out the mobile version of wordpress. And I would say it didn’t disappoint. It is just a breeze to write a blog entry with my new nokia 5800.

UPDATE: Just noticed that my previous post was on 26th Oct 2007, amazing that I didn’t post a single entry in 2008. I have so much to write about 2008.

Don’t Buy a D-Link GLB-502T:-(( It sux!

Posted by: Debasish on: October 26, 2007

I have been using BSNL Dataone for over 6 months now. In order to minimize any possible installation delay in broadband connection I preferred to buy the ADSL modem of my own. For those who don’t know, if you want to buy the modem from BSNL directly, you have to be patient because they are frequently short of supply..!!

And I ended up buying a D-Link GLB-502T which cost me INR 1750/-(on 02.05.07). It comes with dual interface Ethernet or USB. Since I didn’t have an Ethernet card, I preferred to use the USB interface. So all started from here…

  • It disconnects after every 10 min. Reinstalling the drivers does not help. It simply does not work with USB interface. Thats it.
  • The connection is reset if there is slightest of power fluctuation. Sometimes even without fluctuations.
  • It shows Limited Connectivity Error while connecting. (It is not very frequent but not occasional either)
  • This damn thing does not have any online support in its official website.
  • Problems does not get rectified even if you send it to service center!

The moral is just don’t buy a D-Link GLB-502T. This is one the worst buyings I have ever made! Choose from many other brands available which are way better. The best deal would be to get it from BSNL itself, they are cheap and their modems are supposed to have a good feedback.

UPDATE: If you have stumbled upon this site post while  searching for a D-Link GLB-502T firmware upgrade, I’m afraid there isn’t any available! Just live with it or send this damn thing to Service Center to get the firmware updated.

Check your Orkut Scraps as RSS Feeds

Posted by: Debasish on: October 24, 2007

With orkut being blocked in almost every school, college and office, it has become quite difficult to catch up with the latest scraps that your friends send to you. But many would say that there are loads of proxy sites to log into orkut but again are they safe? or do you trust your username and password being sent to google servers via these proxy sites? Atleast I don’t. So here is the safest way to do it. I m going to share a trick that you can use to check your scraps regularly without even signing into orkut.

First thing you need is your orkut uid (i.e. userID). To get your <uid> just go to your profile page and you will find something like this in your address bar.

http://www.orkut.com/Profile.aspx?uid=13907817624893311265

(Look for the numbers in bold, this is your uid!)

Now use this link http://www.indian-tv.com/orkut.php?uid=<uid> and replace the <uid> with your own <uid>. The full address will look something like this.

http://www.indian-tv.com/orkut.php?uid=13907817624893311265

And you are done just copy and paste the complete address in the address bar and see your scraps without even signing in! You can even add this address to your favorite RSS Feed Reader and read your scraps directly from it instead of using a proxy site for orkut.
